US Grant Hotel and Balboa Park

Last week my mom and I took a quick trip down to San Diego, mostly just to have a reason to go stay at the US Grant Hotel again. My mom and I stayed at the US Grant a few years back when I was in college and I must say it is probably one of my favorite hotels that I've had the luxury of staying in. The reason for that is the amazing level of customer service that we always receive and how all of the staff seem to go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable.

The first time that my mom and I went there our room wasn't ready yet even though it was already past checkin time. Instead of just having us wait they immediately told us to go to the bar if they we wished and have some drinks and appetizers on the house to make up for the inconvenience. We ended up getting about $50 worth of food for absolutely free.

*Fun fact: Most of these photos were taken without me being able to see what I was taking a picture of since the LCD display of my Lumix LX7 camera spontaneously broke. Yay for broken cameras right before you leave for a 3 month trip :(((

Amazing rooms that are the perfect combination of luxury and simplicity

On our full day there we went to Balboa Park, which was only about a 10 minute drive from where we were staying. It was my first time at Balboa Park and I was surprised at how beautiful it is. Walking around the Spanish architecture with the amazing San Diego sun made for a great afternoon.

For lunch we ate at the The Prado. There was a long wait for lunch so we decided to eat in the bar section, which has a smaller menu but there was not wait. My mom and I shared a salad and a veggie flat bread. nom nom.

As for museums we only went to a couple. My mom had wanted to go to the Botanical Garden but it is closed on Thursdays (many of the museums are closed on certain days of the week so definitely something to keep in mind). We went to the San Diego Museums of Art which boasts a nice collection of Spanish art and the Timken Museum, which is pretty small but is the only museum in Balboa Park with free admission.

I'm definitely hoping to come back to explore more of what Balboa Park has to offer.

If you ever are in the San Diego area and are looking for a place that will provide you with impeccable service and make you feel right at home I would definitely look into staying at the US Grant.
